All the world is focused on Basel each spring when Baselworld, the world's most significant watch and jewellery show, is running. The most eminent luxury brands, the most exclusive retailers and the world's press are all on the spot.
Some 4400 journalists were accredited for Baselworldin 2016, and the opening press conference was transmitted by live stream and followed by more than 11,000 journalists worldwide.
The world's biggest and most eminent brands, the most exclusive retailers, the most innovative trends, and the world's press on the spot: if superlatives are ever justified for a show, then Baselworld certainly deserves them. The world watch and jewellery show is today regarded as THE global trendsetting event for the industry. In March of each year, it brings together key players from all over the world in Basel, from the sectors of watches, jewellery, diamonds, precious stones and pearls, as well as from the machine and supplier industry.
At Baselworld 2016, a total of 1500 companies presented their innovations and latest creations. No fewer than 145,000 visitors came to the world show – including representatives from the exhibiting companies, buyers and journalists. While the show is running, a daily newspaper, the Baselworld Daily News, is produced on-site and, since 2014, the Baselworld provides helpful information. The Baselworld Facebook page has more than 62,000 fans, the Twitter cannel and the "Chinese Facebook" Weibo have already attracted more than 30,000 fans each, with the figure increasing at a rapid pace.
Moreover, for the re-opening of Baselworld in 2013 – in the new Basel exhibition halls designed by eminent architects Herzog & de Meuron – some 20,000 workers built an almost completely new, temporary Baselworld "city" in the exhibition halls within the space of eight weeks. The majority of exhibitors designed and constructed new exhibition stands for Baselworld 2013: with a total value of some CHF 430 million.
