    Surprising stories and impressive photographs: to mark this year’s anniversary of the MCH Group, a book was being published on 2 March 2016 with the title “In Step With Time. From Swiss Industries Fair to MCH Group”. Nine written contributions and eight pictorial sections tell the story from the first Swiss Mustermesse (Sample Fair) in 1917 through to the present. In this interview, the editor and historian Patrick Kury talks about working on the book, the pictorial treasure troves from the exhibitions and a fateful fire that broke out in 1923.

  • "100 years of Muba: an eye-catching journey through time": Poster walk in Basel now open

    Fifty posters of art-historical value right in the heart of Basel: The exhibition "100 Jahre Muba: eine plakative Zeitreise" (100 years of Muba: an eye-catching journey through time) officially opened today. Between Badischer Bahnhof and Bankverein, it displays highlights from the time since the Sample Fair was first created in 1916. In an interview, Kurt Würmli, curator of the poster collection at the Basel College of Design who has created the exhibition with the MCH Group for its 100th anniversary, explains what makes the Muba posters so special and why they could soon be awarded Unesco cultural heritage status.

    15 July 1916 was a day which brought decisive changes for Switzerland's trade fair industry. This was the day on which the government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt agreed to a samples fair being staged in Basel.  And it was out of this first fair that the current internationally operating MCH Group developed. Success that has been built on a foundation stone laid out of pure necessity during the first world war.
