Optimizing Art Logistics at Art Basel

Art Basel is actively committed to measuring and reducing its CO₂ footprint and works closely with its official freight forwarders, who handle around 80% of all art shipments. In collaboration with the Global Climate Coalition (GCC), workshops were held in 2023 to educate logistics partners on the importance of data transparency and sustainable solutions.
A key tool in this initiative is the GCC template, which enables freight forwarders to systematically track their transport data for both upstream and downstream processes. This standardized approach enhances data quality throughout the supply chain and provides a solid foundation for more accurate CO₂ reporting.
The success of this initiative is already evident in Basel and Miami Beach. Plans are underway to implement the GCC template in Paris and Hong Kong by 2025, further optimizing logistics processes and reinforcing Art Basel’s commitment to sustainability.
