MCH Group and IWB: Partnership for Greater Sustainability through Energy Efficiency

The MCH Group, together with the energy provider IWB, is committed to greater sustainability through the continuous improvement of energy efficiency. The aim of this collaboration is to steadily reduce energy consumption at events and to consistently drive forward the transformation into a low-emission event provider.

As part of the cooperation, IWB not only supplies electricity but also provides comprehensive consulting services for consumption optimization – both for MCH Group’s own events and for guest events in Basel’s exhibition and event halls. This initiative contributes to halving energy-related emissions by 2030 and supports the climate targets of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. In addition to the ecological benefits, operating costs are also to be sustainably reduced.

With this partnership, MCH Group is sending a strong signal for sustainable event formats – ecological, economical, and future-oriented.

DARE-Framework

With the DARE framework, the MCH Group firmly anchors sustainability in its corporate strategy. It defines clear areas of action to connect ecological responsibility, social impact, and economic resilience. By strategically integrating sustainable principles into our core business, we actively drive change and shape a future-oriented event industry.

The four action areas of the DARE sustainability framework

Decarbonize

Decarbonize is aimed at decarbonizing business operations by 2050 and achieving net zero emissions. The interim targets are a 50% reduction in direct emissions (Scope 1 and 2) and a 20% reduction in indirect emissions (Scope 3) by 2030. This commitment is supported by MCH Group’s membership of Net Zero Carbon Events (NZCE) and by Art Basel’s active participation in the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC).

Accelerate

Accelerate is focused on increasing positive economic, social and cultural impacts. MCH Group uses its reach and competence to promote ethical business practices, continuously optimize processes and develop sustainable partnerships. This not only creates high standards but also supports the establishment of sustainable partnerships and the development of new offerings to reinforce positive impacts.

Rethink

Rethink calls on us to question existing approaches and modify these to achieve greater efficiency and closed-loop suitability. This includes the application of renewable and reusable procedures aimed at delivering sustainable efficiency gains and cost savings. One key goal is to achieve near zero waste for all our own events by 2030 – in line with the definition of the Gallery Climate Coalition, which aims to minimize waste in landfills and incineration plants depending on the regional situation.

Empower

Empower puts the focus on the people in MCH Group and in the communities in which we operate. We foster a corporate culture that supports performance enhancement, development and inclusion. Central to this are measures for open and respectful cooperation and the active integration of all employees. We are also committed to discourse and cooperation with different communities to bring about sustainable change.
