Art Basel Qatar closes successful inaugural edition
Art Basel has concluded its first edition in Qatar with an exceptional response from local, regional, and international audiences, marking an important new chapter for Art Basel and for the art ecosystem in the region.
Art Basel’s debut in Qatar welcomed more than 17,000 visitors to venues across Doha. The inaugural edition brought together 87 galleries from 31 countries and territories, including 16 first-time Art Basel exhibitors, presenting a focused and carefully curated selection of contemporary art.
Highlights of the fair included ambitious Special Projects and large-scale installations across the city, alongside a well-attended Conversations program that brought together artists, curators, and cultural leaders to discuss artistic practice, regional perspectives, and global exchange. Performances and public artworks further extended the fair beyond the exhibition spaces and into Doha’s urban landscape.
The fair was met with strong engagement from collectors, institutions, and the wider public. Galleries reported solid sales across a range of market segments, with particular interest in artists from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and the Global South. Representatives from more than 85 international museums and foundations attended throughout the week, highlighting the fair’s role as a platform for discovery and exchange.
With its inaugural edition, Art Basel Qatar has established a new meeting point for the international art world—one rooted in the region and open to global dialogue.
