Art Basel has announced the highlights of its 2026 Basel edition, headlined by the launch of Basel Exclusive – a new initiative that reasserts the primacy of the live fair moment by reserving major works for their first public unveiling at the show's opening. Running from 18 to 21 June 2026 at Messe Basel, the fair returns with an expanded curatorial program across all sectors, new public commissions in the city, and an enriched Conversations series.

Taking place from 18 to 21 June 2026 at Messe Basel, with preview days on 16 and 17 June, the 2026 flagship edition brings together 290 galleries from 43 countries and territories, presenting an exceptional range of art spanning rare twentieth-century masterworks, postwar masterpieces, and some of the most closely watched practices of today.

Introducing "Basel Exclusive"

At the heart of this year's announcement is the launch of Basel Exclusive, a new initiative developed in close dialogue with participating galleries. Designed to reinforce the unique value of the in-person fair experience, Basel Exclusive sees leading international galleries reserve major works — or in some cases entire presentations — from all pre-fair previews, online viewing rooms, and pre-sales activity. These works will be revealed publicly for the first time at the fair's VIP opening on Tuesday, 16 June, during the First Choice Preview hour.

The initiative launches with a distinguished first wave of participating galleries and reaffirms Basel's position at the center of the global art market at a time when sales cycles increasingly begin earlier and across multiple channels.

A Rich Curatorial Program

The 2026 edition brings together an exceptional lineup across all sectors:

  • Unlimited, Art Basel's pioneering platform for large-scale works, returns with 59 major projects presented by 66 galleries — curated for the first time by Ruba Katrib, Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs at MoMA PS1.

  • Parcours, the acclaimed public art sector, presents 22 projects across the city of Basel under the curatorship of Stefanie Hessler, Director of Swiss Institute, New York.

  • Kabinett reaches its largest edition to date, with over 25 curated presentations.

  • Premiere, introduced in 2025, expands from 10 to 17 exhibitors.

  • Feature, Statements, and Edition continue to showcase historical rediscoveries, emerging talent, and print and editioned works.

Art Basel Awards and Public Installations in the City

The 2025 Gold Awardees Nairy Baghramian and Ibrahim Mahama will unveil two major new public commissions in Basel: Baghramian's site-responsive sculptural installation on Messeplatz, and Mahama's ambitious spatial work on Münsterplatz. The 2026 Art Basel Awards medalists will be celebrated at an event at the historic Rathaus during the fair.

A City-Wide Cultural Moment

Opening in close proximity to the 61st Venice Biennale, Art Basel in Basel once again extends the global art calendar, creating rich dialogue between institutional discourse and the market. The fair is accompanied by an expanded Conversations program in a new auditorium in the Eventhalle, along with institutional exhibitions at Fondation Beyeler, Kunstmuseum Basel, Kunsthalle Basel, Museum Tinguely, Vitra Design Museum, and others.
