Art Basel Launches Its First Annual Awards

Art Basel introduces the Art Basel Awards, a new annual initiative recognizing visionary artists, curators, institutions, and cultural pioneers shaping the future of contemporary art. Presented in partnership with BOSS, the awards reinforce Art Basel's commitment to fostering innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration in the global art world.
Art Basel has unveiled the Art Basel Awards, a groundbreaking initiative celebrating artists, curators, institutions, patrons, and cultural innovators shaping the future of contemporary art. Unlike traditional awards that focus on singular achievements, the Art Basel Awards celebrate sustained contributions and broad impact across the cultural landscape.
An International Jury of esteemed experts will select 36 Medalists worldwide, recognized for their visionary approach, execution, and influence. In a unique peer-driven process, these Medalists will then vote among themselves to determine 12 Gold Medalists, representing the highest honor of the program. The Medalists will be announced in May 2025, with an official recognition event during Art Basel in Basel, Switzerland, in June. The Gold Medalists will be revealed in December at Art Basel Miami Beach, during an exclusive ceremony featuring immersive experiences that reflect the awards’ innovative spirit.
Expanding Recognition Across the Art Ecosystem
The awards span multiple categories, acknowledging emerging and established artists, curators, museums, patrons, and behind-the-scenes contributors who play a crucial role in supporting and expanding contemporary art. Special recognition is also given to cross-disciplinary creators working at the intersection of art and industries such as fashion, design, film, and architecture.
Medalists will gain access to Art Basel’s global network, mentorship programs, and partnership opportunities, further amplifying their impact. Gold Medalists will receive special commissions, institutional showcases, and mentorship initiatives to support the next generation of artistic talent.
