Women in Life Sciences at Ilmac 2025: A Space for Dialogue, Insight and Shared Perspectives
At Ilmac Basel 2025, Women in Life Sciences created a space where exchange, reflection and shared ambition came together. On 17 September, attendees met from late afternoon into the evening to explore how structures in research, development and healthcare can evolve, and how women’s perspectives can take a stronger place in shaping those systems.
The programme placed a clear spotlight on the gender health gap and on the role of female leaders who challenge established norms and bring new approaches into teams, labs and boardrooms. What emerged was a picture that remains central to the industry today: women continue to face barriers in leadership, while gender-specific approaches in research and healthcare are still not the standard. These gaps shape careers, innovation and patient outcomes.
Women in Life Sciences responded by bringing together expert insight, lived experience and practical ideas. Participants heard from industry voices who outlined where progress is needed most, networked with peers and senior professionals, and explored interactive stations that translated key issues into concrete next steps. A closing aperitif opened the space for informal conversations and new connections.
Ilmac integrated the format directly into its conference and side-event programme, making it visible and accessible throughout the fair. The message was clear: equality and diversity belong alongside the industry’s defining topics.
The initiative was supported by partners whose commitment amplified its reach, including Roche and Artidis, as well as Powher, the Swiss Chemical Society, Women on Stage, Luminance and Ainovo Biotech. Their involvement underlined a shared goal: strengthening the presence and influence of women across the life sciences.
