Extension of Swissbau

The cancellation of the two trade fairs of Ineltec and Sicherheit in February 2019 caused a stir in the industry. Since then, the MCH Group has received positive signals from affected companies who are interested in participating in alternative presentation options.

As the leading trade fair for Switzerland’s construction and real-estate industry, Swissbau offers the building technology and security sector a relevant interdisciplinary business platform. Over the past few weeks, talks have been held with relevant representatives of the industries affected by the cancellation of Ineltec and Sicherheit. Leading companies have taken the decision to participate in Swissbau. Overlaps have long existed between the three different trade fairs in the sectors of building automation, energy in buildings, light and lighting technology, and building security. These sectors are now to be extended at Swissbau.

Swissbau is being staged at Messe Basel from 14 to 18 January 2020

The MCH Group’s decision to enhance Swissbau with greater coverage of the above topics makes sense for industry experts. Swissbau Exhibition Manager, Rudolf Pfander, stresses the major relevance of Swissbau and the growth potential of intelligent building technology: “Digitisation is bringing changes to the industry, and the different segments of the construction and real-estate industries are moving closer together. Building technology is already represented with suppliers from the fields of heating, ventilation and building automation”, he explains. “Enhancing Swissbau by including building automation and energy in buildings as key focal points now ensures that building technology is all grouped under a single roof. Swissbau similarly offers an ideal platform for building security and light and lighting technology. With our integrative trade fair concept and the further development of the topics covered at Swissbau, new target groups are being made accessible to everyone”.

Around 100,000 visitors (80% professional visitors and 20% people having buildings constructed and users) come to Swissbau in Basel every two years, with 57,000 of these being decision-makers. Swissbau is also increasingly being attended by owners and investors, real estate service providers, facility managers, those in charge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and building technology specialists.

Through its three vehicles of a trade fair, Swissbau Focus and the Swissbau Innovation Lab, Swissbau depicts the entire life cycle of a building

With Swissbau Focus, an interdisciplinary event and networking platform, Swissbau and some 30 industry associations, federal agencies, institutions and universities, are providing a relevant industry platform at which more than 7000 decision-makers from business and politics will be engaging in discussions on the latest challenges. At the Swissbau Innovation Lab, the focus is on digitisation. There, Swissbau, working together with the industry – and in particular with “Bauen digital Schweiz” and the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects – will be staging a special show on the topic of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and digital solutions for the second time. The 70 or so partners include leading companies like Amstein+Walthert, Gruner, Itten+Brechbühl, Selmoni and Siemens.

Walo Dalhäuser, Head of Trade Fairs and Consumer Shows MCH Swiss Exhibition Ltd.: “In addition to their previous visitor target groups of planners and fitters, exhibitors from Ineltec and Sicherheit will now also be able to tap the potential of more than 21,000 architects, interior designers and other specialist planners and engineers.”

Werner Fehlmann, Head Solution and Service Portfolio, Building Technologies, Siemens, stresses: “Extending Swissbau by energy in buildings, building automation and building security is a future-oriented move and one which responds to the growing need for interdisciplinary networking.”

Michael Tschirky, Central President of the Association of Swiss Electrical Installation Companies (VSEI): “Swissbau opens up new options for our industry, since building technology as a whole will then be united under a single roof. It also reflects developments in the industry where convergence of the individual sectors is becoming increasingly important.”
